Extreme contamination often non-homogeneous
Very high levels of contamination often occur in isolated hot spots, which makes then
easy to miss during standard soil investigations.
Excavation of trenches through suspect areas, like here on a gasworks
site, is often a quick and reliable way to obtain better insight in the
subsurface conditions.
