Free product mobility measurements
The mobility of free floating product is dependent on many variables such as age of
spill, presence of historical contamination as well as some standard variables
such as soil parameters, type of product and geohydrology.
The actual migration potential can be measured as pore pressure of the
free phase product. This can be
done with specially prepared lysimeters. Shown
are the connection points of pairs of lysimeters (hydrophobic and hydrophilic
pairs) to determine migration potential and migration speed of a free product
layer on the BP Kriwana refinery in Perth, Australia.
